Mark Freshwater in Concert @ Oracle Piano Society

From the second part of a concert devoted to a mix of Freshwater's original compositions and the likes of this two-part medley of "Rocket Man" by Elton John and Bernie Taupin (1972) and "Space Oddity" (Ground control to major Tom) by David Bowie (1969). I'll be back with more from the concert. I still can't believe this great venue is right here in Oracle!

I was not familiar with this piece. Mark Freshwater plays and sings "Freedom for the Stallion" by Allen Toussaint 1971. The program lists recordings up through Elvis Costello ''06. LyricsFreedom for the stallionFreedom for the mare and her coltFreedom for the baby childWho has not grown old enough to voteLord, have mercy, what you gonna doAbout the people who are praying to you? They got men making laws that destroy other menThey've made money God it's a doggone sinOh, Lord, you got to help us find a wayBig ship's a sailingSlaves all chained and boundHeading for a brand new landThat some cat said he upped and foundLord, have mercy, what you gonna doAbout the people who are praying to you? They got men making laws that destroy other menThey've made money 'God' it's a doggone sinOh, Lord, you got to help us find a waySome sing a sad songSome got to moan the bluesTrying to make the best of a homeThat the man didn't even get to chooseLord, have mercy, how you gonna beWith people like John and meThey've got men building fences to keep other men outIgnore him if he whispers and kill him if he shoutsOh, Lord, you got to help us find a wayOh, Lord, you got to help them find the wayOh, Lord, you got to help us find a way
